![]() ![]() ![]() Simply as an example, I’m going to come back to the SRDx / iSRD issue. The Silverfast Web site has confusing statements about iSRD and SRDx applied to Kodachrome slides. When newly discovering v8.8, the first thing I’m going to look for is. However, what it also brings to the table is that it has apparently totally screwed up the IR version, iSRD, in Silverfast HDR. The following page implies that SilverFast iSRD should be used with Kodachromes: SRDx New Dust and Scratch Removal Specially suited for Epson scanners that do not have an infrared channel A manual correction or retouching of dust, scratches and other image defects is an extremely time-consuming task.Ĭlicking on SRDi (the only was to invoke xSRD. In the professional field, it sometimes can take 1-2 night shifts to optimize a single image. "The Nikon CoolScan 9000ED, featuring an advanced version of Digital ICE®, was the only device capable of removing dust and scratches from Kodachromes. Black and white film emulsion contains silver halides, which reflect i. SRDx works without any unsharping effects. ICC profiles, a special Kodachrome target for IT8 color calibration and, of course, iSRD in combination with SRDx enable SilverFast to scan Kodachromes reliably without color casts and free of dust and scratches.: until LaserSoft Imaging had developed a set of Kodachrome features allowing a great variety of scanners to handle Kodachromes. SilverFast‘s reliable Dust and Scratch Removal now available for black and white film. "A special case regarding dust and scratch removal are black and white film and Kodachrome film. Unlike color slides or color negatives, the scanner's infrared rays can not permeate through the film emulsion, due to the silver halide layer contained in the film. SilverFast is the name of a family of software for image scanning and processing, including photos, documents and slides, developed by LaserSoft Imaging. ![]() This means that infrared based tools like iSRD, ICE1, FARE1 or MagicTouch1 can not be used here. ![]() Why I have to use 2 of your software to perform this single task sounds to me like a trick of your marketing department.SRDx has been developed especially for these cases. I'm not happy when I have to pay twice for the same service (and have to use Photoshop anyway for selective editing with clever masking options). This forces me to have a different worklow for digital and for film photos and basically 2 software licences to do the same things. SRDx, which comes in SilverFast’s Ai Studio 8 scanner software, is a dust and scratch removal clean-up tool for black-and-white negatives and Kodachrome. I need Silver Fast only to communicate with my scanner and to do the film cleaning, I have a better software to adjust brightness, hue, saturation, contrast, etc. That’s all changed with a new breakthrough in scanning technology from LaserSoft Imaging called SRDx, which can work with scanners without the need for installed IR-channel capability. Without and with SilverFast SRDx und Kodachrome profile. It ensures effective removal of dust and scratches from black and white film and, in combination with SilverFast iSRD, represents an ideal solution for Kodachromes. SRDx - Revolutionary Dust and Scratch Removal without Infrared Channel. SRDx, our software-based dust and scratch removal, has bee developed especially for black and white film. Silver Fast should act as a meta-driver which produces the equivalent of a digital RAW picture (taking care of all the technical corrections specific to the film medium at once) and output a regular lossless file that every picture editing software will understand. The IT8 calibration feature now is a permanent part of SilverFast Ai Studio 8. Some functions in Silver Fast are redundant with Photoshop (curves, contrast & color adjustments) while some basic others are missing (IR channel processing on 16 bits output files - the scanner outputs 16 bits anyway), and apparently I need a software to do the data acquisition and another one to do the data cleaning. It's a disapointment to have to constantly upgrade the software to get access to the core functionalities of the scanner (namely, the 16 bits output + the IR channel + the multi-exposure at once), especially as it ends up with a piece of software redundant with Photoshop or Lightroom (but significantly less efficient and user-friendly).Īll I would like to do is to produce a clean color neutral 16 bits RGB scan on which low-level corrections using the scanner features as been applied (like the IR dust removal, multi-exposure and film color calibration), then send it as a 16 bits RGB TIFF file to Photoshop or Lightroom to perform higher-level edits just as every digital RAW file from modern DSLR. Until August 2016, I was able to produce 16 bits "HDR" files and apply corrections on them directly in SE Plus (GANE, iSRD, SRDx, etc.) which was nice. ![]()
